Everyone know that Stephanie Kuehnert rocks. All you have to do is merely glance at the pics on her Facebook or MySpace page to know that she kicks ass, probably has a CD collection that could bury you, and has effortlessly indie-looking, just-so tousled hair. In short, she’s waaaaaaaaay cooler than me–not that this would be that hard to accomplish or anything . . . My dog is probably cooler than me 🙂 But I digress. Simply put, IWBYJR is one of the best books I’ve read this year–hands down, a rock-n-roll tour de force that will leave you breathless.
About the Book:
A raw, edgy, emotional novel about growing up punk and living to tell.
The Clash. Social Distortion. Dead Kennedys. Patti Smith. The Ramones.
Punk rock is in Emily Black’s blood. Her mother, Louisa, hit the road to follow the incendiary music scene when Emily was four months old and never came back.
Now Emily’s all grown up with a punk band of her own, determined to find the tune that will bring her mother home. Because if Louisa really is following the music, shouldn’t it lead her right back to Emily?
I got my start writing bad poetry about unrequited love and razor blades in eighth grade. In high school, I discovered punk rock and produced several D.I.Y. feminist ‘zines. After short stints in Ohio and Wisconsin, I ultimately returned home and received her MFA in creative writing from Columbia College Chicago. I currently reside in Forest Park, IL. This novel is my first. And if you want to know more about me and my writing, please visit my website at www.stephaniekuehnert.com.
Stephanie has graciously donated a copy of her amazing book IWBYJR for me to give away right here on my blog! All you have to do is comment on this post, describing the last CD you bought, or music you downloaded 🙂 The contest will run until April 1.
